scribe.town is operated by Fork Studio Limited (company number 726783), registered at Rathmore, Baltimore, Co Cork, P81 HW84, Ireland. We are the data controller for the personal data described below.
What we collect and why
We collect the minimum needed to run the service. Here is exactly what we store and the legal basis under GDPR for each:
- Email address — to sign you in with one-time passwords and to contact you about your account. Legal basis: contract performance.
- Uploaded media files — your audio and video, stored so we can transcribe and let you edit them. Legal basis: contract performance.
- Transcripts and edits — the text you create and change inside the editor. Legal basis: contract performance.
- Payment details — handled entirely by Stripe. We see your name, email and the last four digits of your card. We never see or store full card numbers. Legal basis: contract performance.
- Server logs — IP address, browser type, and timestamps when you use the site. Kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
We do not use analytics or tracking scripts. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell or share your data with anyone for marketing.
Cookies
We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. That is all. No analytics cookies, no third-party tracking cookies. Because we only use strictly necessary cookies, we do not need to ask for cookie consent under ePrivacy rules — but we are telling you here so you know.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of third-party services to run scribe.town. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service to us:

All media files and transcripts stay within the EU (Scaleway fr-par region).
How long we keep your data
- Your files and transcripts stay as long as your account is active.
- When you delete a project or file, we remove it from our storage.
- If you close your account, we delete all your data.
- Server logs are deleted after 30 days.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access your data — see what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Export your transcripts and media files.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) if you believe we have handled your data incorrectly.
